Fellow Pilots at Western Global,

Happy New Year! I’m pleased to report that an overwhelming majority of Western Global pilots requested that the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) seek a representation election. Today ALPA filed your authorization cards with the National Mediation Board (NMB), the government agency that will conduct the secret-ballot representation election.

A special thanks goes out to your Organizing Committee (OC) volunteers who assisted in collecting the cards in two months—one of the shortest periods in ALPA history! I am impressed with their professionalism and dedication to the campaign, and with your determination to have a voice in your future and protect your career.

We expect, based on previous experience, that the NMB will validate the authorization cards and complete their secret ballot election process in 60-90 days. We will provide more information about the NMB process and the advantages of ALPA representation in upcoming communications.

Western Global is a strong company with a respected management team, and you have been a huge part of making it a great airline. Continuing to build a constructive relationship with management, using ALPA resources to negotiate a legally enforceable contract, and having an effective dispute resolution process will contribute to future success. At the same time, Western Global pilots will add to the Association’s already-strong advocacy efforts on safety and international issues.

ALPA members and I look forward to welcoming you in the near future to the Air Line Pilots Association, International.

Sincerely,

Capt. Joseph G. DePete

President, Air Line Pilots Association, International

Frequently Asked Questions

“I could see that unless we got a pilots’ association with real power, there wouldn’t be enough money in airline flying to make it worth my effort. I would have to go back to slipsticking at a desk, and I didn’t want that; I wanted to keep flying.”
